Visit Nepal’s deepest Lake, the Rara, hiking through Juniper forests and enjoy the spectacular landscape that surrounds this untouched lake. Rara is an unique spot in Nepal. The lake is situated in the Rara National Park and because of its remote location it is a perfect place to spent time here from busy chaotic city life.

Rara lies in the far north western part of Nepal and it is the smallest national park in the country, while the Rara Lake is Nepal’s biggest lake. The lake is situated at an elevation of 2800meters and 167m deep at some places, and drains into the rivers Nijar Khola. Chuchemara Hill at 4,087m is the best view point to enjoy spectacular views of this beautiful big blue lake.

Wide varieties of flora and fauna, about 500 kinds of flowers, 20 species of mammals and 214 species of birds can be observed in this park. Snow trout, is among the rarest fish recorded here.

Tips

The best and ideal time to visit the lake is in the spring, summer and autumn. As more individuals are currently visiting the lake and the Rara lake and the park itself, more facilities like camping, and many infrastructures have been added for your better experience. Still, self preparation is advisable if you are travelling alone.

Things to do

1)Boating in the clear waters.

2)Climb to close by slopes for a closer view on the mountains and lake, get to know the nearby people and their lifestyle or simply stroll around the big lake and look out for wild life and rare birds around the area.

3)Camping by the sparkling waters of the lake.

4)Biking or trekking

Gateway to the lake will be an memorable experience for you if you choose either through motorbike tour or trekking. It is among the best places to go for trek with friends or families from my experience because of its unique location and the country’s untouched lake. Biking would take about 1 week from the capital city or you can take flight to Pokhara and enjoy your 5 day straight ride along the magnificent view that come along with the dangerous and remote road.
